Annual Gatherings

So beautiful! In line with its new alumni drive, the College has recently increased the number of Annual Gatherings it holds. This means that the choir is not always now available to sing at them, given that more fall outside of term. For the Summer Gathering on 19 July, 2007 the College asked the TCCA to provide the choir to sing at Evensong and from the gallery at dinner afterwards. You can read in the Spring 2008 Newsletter Thalia (Eley) Grant's brief report on the success of that first occasion.  Golden Oldies!

(Gallery glamour!)

This formula is being repeated annually and if you would like to register an interest in singing on these occasions please contact the Membership Secretary (Selene Webb), who is coordinating the list at: sjw32@cam.ac.uk   This will entail a mid-afternoon rehearsal, Evensong at approximately 6.15pm and dinner from 8pm until late.

Remembrance Sunday - 11 November, 2007

Members of the TCCA were warmly invited to come and join the current Choir in singing Duruflé’s Requiem on Remembrance Sunday, 11 November, 2007 at 6.15pm.

Between 30 and 40 TCCA members attended, and Rickman Godlee (1972) who played his cello to great effect in the Pie Jesu, commented .."The Duruflé yesterday was a triumph. The choir sounded magnificent. The extra resonance from the more mature voices added great depth and power to the present choir, and the SATB balance was just right.   Hearing the Requiem in a liturgical context was very moving and the whole service was a most stirring occasion."
Others also voiced appreciation that the Requiem was placed in the context of a service rather than purely being a concert performance.

The service in Chapel was followed by a buffet supper in the Old Kitchen, and the whole occasion was a great success.

You can read Selene Webb's reflection on the event here and in the recent Newsletter

The Requiem performances have now been repeated in 2008 and 2009 and a similar event is planned for 2010.

Choir tour to Canada

2008's summer tour was to Canada.  On 25 July, while TCCA were standing in for them at the Annual Gathering, my brother went to hear them sing in the Gambrel Barn at the Elora Festival in Ontario (see picture on left), and reports that the evening was a resounding success with the Choir on very good form in a challenging and entertaining programme.

In early/mid September 2009 the Choir went touring in California and this year it's Australia!!  For a complete list of the concerts click here for the Choir concerts page
