RECORDINGS OF THE CHAPEL CHOIR OF TRINITY COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE

The list comprises all issued recordings made by the choir, and issued on CD, since its 'reformation' by the last Director of Music, Richard Marlow, as a mixed SATB choir following admission of women undergraduates to the College in the mid-80s.

The list is sorted by release date.  Discography list - PDF (145KB file)

The first CD releases were on the Conifer label - but this has since experienced a number of mergers or take-overs with and by other record labels and the majority of these recordings are no longer in 'current' catalogues, but they are, without exception, well worth obtaining if you can!

Several compilations are listed. These are all 'Trinity only' titles compiled from other recordings in the listing.  Individual tracks also appear on several more compilations along with other artists - but these are not currently included.  Titles from the list may possibly be available either new or second-hand from sellers such as Amazon, and a trawl through Amazon's site on 1 June, 2010 searching the Classical section for Trinity College Cambridge Choir revealed a varied list at widely differing prices (the Schütz disc was quoted, for a used-as-new copy at prices from £91!)   It is probably worth trying on e-Bay as well.

It is not inconceivable that those with access to that Conifer 'back catalogue' may decide to re-issue them in due course - indeed Sony has re-released some of the anthologies and compilations over the past year.

I am very grateful for the assistance of Nick Sanders, the father of Adrian Sanders (1997-2001) in tracking down some of the more obscure items.  It is hoped, in the future, to expand details of these as well as track listings and details of the compilations in which Trinity items appear.

The most recent Hyperion release - David Briggs - Mass for Notre Dame and other choral works - is of pieces by pre-eminent organist and composer David Briggs, including 'The Trinity Service' setting of the evening canticles written for Trinity Choir.  The Choir is accompanied by David Briggs on the organ of Gloucester Cathedral where he was organist for eight years and is now 'organist emeritus'

The last remaining recording made under Richard Marlow's direction - a disc of Peter Philips's Cantiones Sacrae has now been released by Chandos

A list as at 1 July, 2010, definitely available in current label catalogues is available on the Current recordings page
